22 August: College rugby ramping up next fortnight

It’s a little over a fortnight until the New Zealand Barbarians National 1st XV Championships (Top 4) take place in Palmerston North. This weekend is a pivotal one in the race for those places, and we take a look at what’s left in each region. Read more here 

20 August: NZASA Seminar – Community Sports Events ..

The NZ Amateur Sports Association extends a cordial invitation to all interested in attending the first of its regional seminars, focusing on the role of amateur sport in the community.

On Wednesday, 26 September, an expert panel comprising Dr. Rachel Batty (from Massey University), Will Caccia-Birch (from Wellington Rugby) and Matt Reid (from the Hutt City Council) will consider the following questions.

- What does it take to create a successful community sports event?

- What are the challenges and pitfalls, and how can they be avoided or resolved?

- How can a community sports event’s success be measured?

16 August: St Mary's College win three-peat

St Mary's College beat Porirua College 44-15 to win the Wellington Schoolgirls title for the third consecutive year.

10 August: Surge in rugby female players

The future of New Zealand rugby appears to be female as surging registrations from women partially offsets the decline in the number of male players. The Deloitte Sports Review: State of the Unions report released on Friday highlighted a collective decline in male player registrations for Mitre 10 Cup [NPC] unions (0.1 per cent from 2016 to 2017) - driven by an 8.9 per cent drop in senior grades (21 year older and over) as they decreased by more than 2,000 registrations. Since 2010, male senior grades have decreased in size by 11 per cent. However, the women's game is moving quickly in the opposite direction, with a staggering increase of 63.8 per cent in senior grade registrations since 2010. Read more here

30 July: Moascar Cup returns to Christchurch

Christchurch Boys’ High School are the new holders of the Moascar Cup after defeating Nelson College 22-12 on Saturday. Nelson held the Moascar Cup for 14 defences. Christchurch are unbeaten in 21 UC Championship matches and are guaranteed to host a semi-final. Nelson are sixth, five points outside the top four.
